Chrome cookies deleted after using DDU in Safe Mode
I'm using DDU for a while now and I start to notice that my Chrome cookies are being deleted after using DDU (the latest installed version) when booted to Safe Mode. I'm logged out on every site, for example guru3d/netflix/imgbb. Is there anyone with a similar issue or does anyone has a solution for it? Thnx in advance.

This should not happens and there is no code to do that, I guess a google chrome update may have done this for some reasons. I know they fixed a security issue recently.mrrulez911 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 8:26 am I'm using DDU for a while now and I start to notice that my Chrome cookies are being deleted after using DDU (the latest installed version) when booted to Safe Mode. But to be sure, if you can zip me your DDU logs folder (located within the DDU folder) and send it at [email protected]
You can also do an easy test to loin on our websites then do a DDU in safe mode and see if the issue is still there. If not than something else did it.

Re: Chrome cookies deleted after using DDU in Safe Mode
I've reproduced the same thing. So, checking for updates of DDU in non-safemode, there weren't any. Rebooted in safemode with networking. Then start DDU, press GPU which does select nVidia. Clean and restart which results in losing my logins for guru3d/netflix/tweakers.net etc. For this forum it was kepping the login and also for my Plex server.
So, after this experience I've used nVidia CleanUp Tool and there wasn't any of this. But I'm still curious if you can find something in the log files I've send you. In wait of a response on that. Thanks!

Thanks for the update, I'll keep you informed. I just didn't have the time to check the logs yet.mrrulez911 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 2:09 am I've reproduced the same thing. Edit: I have looked at the logs and also did the test myself.
- In the logs, there is nothing that delete the cookies. You can check this easily by searching Google or Chrome.
- On my side it didn't happen either too, all is functional.
So there must be something else affecting this. It's a long shot but try to Sync the time of your computer with the "Sync now" options in the Date & time settings of windows. Maybe if they are offset a little too much, maybe it invalidate the cookies.
But if not something else is provoking this.
You can try something too, Boot into safe mode, do NOT clean with DDU and reboot back in normal mode and see what happen.
You could also try DDU in normal mode too and see what happens.
Also check if chrome is up-to-date.

Re: Chrome cookies deleted after using DDU in Safe Mode
Thnx for all the effort you did put in. I'll check some things. It could be indeed the safe mode thing. For nvcut (nv clean up tool) I didn't have to boot into safe mode, so. Ehm... I'm gonna boot into safemode to see what happens without using DDU there. I'll report back!
Edit:
1. I've checked the boot into safe mode thing without using DDU there. Nothing changed, I still got all my cookies + log-ins;
2. I've done the timesync thing. Also no change in Chrome, everything works;
3. I've checked latest Chrome updates, and it's still up-to-date;
4. I've done DDU in normal Windows, so no safe mode. Still everything works in Chrome;
5. Final test, doing DDU in safe mode again after I already did DDU in normal Windows, and yes, this did indeed delete all my log-ins. I had to log in for this forum/guru3d/netflix/tweakers/technologyinsider. All is lost. So, there must be something, right?
I'm gonna re-install my nVidia driver now. I did check everything and it only happens when I use DDU in safe mode. Another log-files check maybe or could there be something else doing it?

Re: Chrome cookies deleted after using DDU in Safe Mode
Hello
On another forum we tested with some users...
It is impossible to reproduce what is described as a bug
Then there is no connection with persistent or session cookies, and cleaning
Since you are the only one to have this problem (at least for now) the problem is with you (Various settings etc.)
Otherwise keeping these cookies is practical, BUT for security reasons, personal data it is advisable not to keep them (Visit a malicious site is enough to recover everything for example)
Cookies help hackers to get a precise idea of the habits and interests of their target.
Hackers can therefore try to steal session cookies in order to try to connect to your internet accounts in your place without knowing your password.
This process is session hijacking.
This is possible with a Trojan stealer, a malicious extension, by stealing cookies by intercepting network connections (Wi Fi), ...
Your cookies can be used to easily compromise social networks, emails and many other services.

Re: Chrome cookies deleted after using DDU in Safe Mode
That is really weird, as the cleanup is not different in safe mode vs in normal mode.mrrulez911 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 9:59 am Thnx for all the effort you did put in. I'll check some things. The reason we recommend safe mode is because some file my be locked by the system process and cannot be deleted. That doesn't happen when we are in safe mode.
Also, can you confirm that they are really removed by looking in here : C:\Users\Your_User_Name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Network ?
If they are still there, that should be the case because we see nothing in DDU logs related to that, maybe they get invalidated for some reasons.
So your issue is quite puzzling.

Re: Chrome cookies deleted after using DDU in Safe Mode
I had the same thing with Edge (using the chrome engine). I went into safe mode, performed the clear and my cookies were gone after this. While DDU may not be doing this, I noticed during the output it reports using an API to "do stuff", could that API have been updated to clear / wipe cookies?
